Film: 'Tryweryn, the story of a valley' (1965)

Colour film held by the National Screen and Sound Archive of Wales, recording the flooding of the Tryweryn valley, and the consequent drowning of the village of Capel Celyn, in 1965.

An account by the staff and boys of Friars School [now Ysgol Friars], Bangor, of the flooding of the Tryweryn river valley (involving the drowning of the village of Capel Celyn), to provide water for the people of Liverpool. Filmed over a period of years, from inception to completion of the hydro-electric plan, this is a dispassionate record of an emotive event. John Charles, son of the photographer Geoff Charles (1909-2002), was among the pupils of Friars School who produced the film. Eleven clips from the film are shown here.
